In addition to Gay For You, another common theme in my writing is Cute Young Things. Oh man, I love 'em. There is nothing like an adorable young man--or even not-so-young man--just aching to be molested. In the best way, of course, I'm not talking about child molestation or rape. Please. No, I'm talking about a wide-eyed, smooth-skinned, preferably slim man without a clue in this world and the gorgeous other man who's drawn to teach him a few things.
Strangely enough, my list of CYTs is pretty much my list from my GFY stories. Tyler, Kyle, Aaron and Scott are chief among them. OK, Tyler was in his late twenties in Heaven, but that's still young. Heck, I've got a CYT in the elves books and he was close to 200 years old when we first met him--that would be Jarak, btw. Matt and Noah from my two MLR anthologies fall in the CYT category. Rudy from Leashed definitely qualifies. Hell, Darien and Reese would qualify as well. Tristan from my Sacred Bands story qualifies. Heck, there's a CYT in pretty much all of my m/m stories.
Bugged me for awhile, tbh. The cps write CYTs too, but they've got a lot more rugged and buff guys than I do. James and Laura definitely write MEN. Jen's Nate and Simon are definitely MEN. I felt for awhile that I really should push my guys a little more toward the manly side and away from the cute and/or androgynous (if not downright effeminite). However, I have given up that notion. Why? I've decided that's my thing. I can blame yaoi, but truth is I've been a fan of the look for a long time. Tolkien-type elves were always my type. Tall and willowy and just too pretty for words. I've also always liked the guys who push the gender boundaries. Guys that didn't need to be manly men. I guess it's my schtick. The SO is six-foot-one and slim. I've seen pics of my dad when he was young and he was the same. All the guys I've liked in my life were similar in build. That's what I go for so I guess that's what I'm bound to write.
(Of course, I say that but in the WIP I've got a big guy as one of the heros. But he's like that for a reason)
Anyway, I've let myself go with it. That's probably what you can depend on from me. At least I'm relatively faithful, huh?

Don't change, please! I love the slim heroes from your books. IMO there are far too many beefy muscle men about in m/m.
I've always been more attracted to the slim, androgenous look and was so glad to find an author who could write a dominant, sexy, slim man - as opposed the 'nerdy' label they always seem to come under.
Yep, the CYT is a winner with me!
Jet, I think your writing CYT is really no different than me mainly writing BBW heroines. I like writing them, I feel comfortable with knowing that the emotional responses I give that kind of heroine are real and justified. I like seeing my BBW girls getting what they need, the same way you like seeing your naive CYT getting broken out of their shell. You enjoy that slightly androgynous yet sexy man and it shows.
After all, if we didn't have CYT's and BBW's and all those other wonderful acronyms, romance would be a very, very dull book to read!
I always joke about my uke characters being "the magical age of 19", and have worried at times that maybe I should deviate from that trend. But to my neverending surprise and delight, my readers generally favor the 19 year old over the much older semes that I pair them up with. And hey, we've all got to start somewhere, right? Those buff, rugged, older experienced Casanova characters in m/m were the magical age of 19 once upon a time!
Ahhh, to be 19 all over again... well certain parts of it anyway.
Jenre, I'm with you there. I love me the pretty ones. Yum!
Anne: Amen! Every type needs their champion :D
Katrina: I think it's like Anne said, you enjoy the magical 19s (I love that term, btw) and your enjoyment comes through. I'm all for you continuing in that thread ;)
Lol, magical age of 19??? hehehe.
Jet, I do like this post, very cool!
19 is a good age! lol
