Excerpt - THE WHITE KNIGHT

I admit to feeling unbloggish this morning. I've got deadlines converging fast -- it's very strange, almost cosmic, the way all edits seem to hit at the same time. I currently have three sets of edits due -- as well as two new projects. Ah, that rush of adrenaline in the morning!

Anyway...coming March 31st from Loose Id (so they tell me), The White Knight. This is the sequel/prequel to The Dark Horse novella. And since I don't have the artwork to The White Knight (and since The White Knight will be a lot more enjoyable if you read The Dark Horse), I'm using the artwork from The Dark Horse.

Blurb:
Actor Sean Fairchild has a not-so-secret admirer: a psycho stalker who thinks taking out the sexy, shy young actor will leave the world a better place. His manager insists Sean needs protection, and Sean’s beginning to think he’s right.

It’s a Hollywood cliché: the hot and handsome bodyguard. But in the case of LAPD Detective Daniel Moran, it’s all true. Dan is everything Sean ever wanted in a leading man, but Dan’s kind of an old-fashioned guy. It’s his job to keep Sean safe and in one piece -- happy is someone else’s problem.

As tension mounts, Sean can’t help turning to Dan, while Dan is finding it harder and harder to say no. Their only chance of a happy ending is if Dan can keep Sean alive -- but what happens when he uncovers the secrets Sean is trying hard to conceal?

Excerpt:

Bright lights…a babble of voices…desperate, sick pounding in my head…

“He’s coming around.”

“He took one hell of a fall,” another voice said.

“Sean?” A third voice -- closer -- was saying my name over and over. “Sean, can you hear me? Are you all right?”

His voice seemed to echo down a tunnel. It hurt my ears. I tried to focus. Blond…white face…worried… I knew that face. Knew…

“Where’s Dan?” I asked. My voice sounded funny.

“Who’s Dan?” asked still-another someone out of my range of vision. Who were all these people and why were they in my bedroom?

The face I thought I knew wavered close to mine…blurred, underwater features…blue eyes reminding me of Dan…but not Dan.

“His boyfriend in the States. But…I didn’t think… I’m not sure they’re still together.”

The throbbing in my head grew worse -- a fierce, stabbing pain knifing through everything else. Cold sweat broke out over my body. I half rolled onto my side and threw up acid blood.

You would have thought so, anyway, from the yells of dismay. Would have thought acid was eating through shoes and the wooden floor, burning and dripping down through dusty floorboards to the cellar and the wet, dank earth below, sizzling the worms…
Wooden floor? What the hell was I doing lying on a wooden floor?

“Sean?” one of the voices said loudly -- too loudly. “We’re going to lift you now. Don’t try to move. Let the paramedics do all the work.”

“I want Dan,” I gasped out. “Where is he?”

Really looking forward to this one, Josh, and can't wait to see the cover!

P.S. I love these characters.

LB's left almost exactly the same post I was going to type!

I loved the style and atmosphere of tension/thrill in Dark Horse and for me, the characters cried out for more bookspace. Looking forward to it!
