See Your Words

For all you bloggers and writers out there, or for anyone who loves playing with words: If you haven’t checked it out before, Wordle.net is a nifty web app that allows you to see your, or anyone else’s, words in a different way than standard lines of text.

The app creates word clouds from text you copy into a form or live from a blog or website RSS feed.

From Wordle.net: “The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.”

Wordle can be a fun and interesting way for:

- writers to examine the frequency of words used in a chunk of text
- authors to share a sample or preview of their writing with readers
- bloggers to post a summary of all the blogs on their site
- anyone to graphically play with the words they love

I’ve been hearing about this site for a while and finally had a chance to check it out. I’m creating samples for each of my books and adding them to my website as a fun preview of each story. Here are some of the sites and text samples I’ve tried:

The keyword tags used on my website

Give it a try yourself. Just copy and paste whatever text you want to view into the form at Wordle.net.

Have fun!
