Romance Trading Cards - what a cool idea!

A few days ago on Twitter, a bunch of authors started talking about trading cards. Someone mentioned how cool they thought it would be if we could make trading cards for our heroes and heroines. Then someone else said - "Why can't we?" - and thus, romance trading cards were born.

Now the movement has grown to easily over a hundred authors, including me! I'll be making trading cards for my new Loose Id release, Talk to Me. I think I'll make two different cards - one for Drew, my hero, and another for Jamie, my heroine.

Here's the skinny on the cards: participating authors will have them at the Romantic Times (RT) convention in a few weeks, and also at the RWA National convention this summer. The front of each card will feature the book cover, while the back has information about the character - things like occupation, physical features, special powers (for paranormals), and possibly an image or other symbol about the character. The border on each card is a different color depending on the genre. The color for erotic romance? Red, of course! Red hot!

Neat idea, huh? There's even a website for the romance trading cards - check us out at http://romancetradingcards.com/ . There you'll find information about the participating authors, be able to see the card designs, and lots more! The card on the right is from the author who helped bring us all together, Jeannie Lin.

Let me know what you think of the idea and if you're going to be attending RT or RWA. If not, you can contact me at authorcassandracarr AT gmail DOT com and I'll be happy to mail them out to you! Talk to Me releases on March 22nd and I'm so excited! For an excerpt and buying information, visit my website at http://www.booksbycassandracarr.com. Oh, perfect! I've been seeing chatter about the trading cards, but I somehow missed the start of it. I'm not doing anything other than possibly attending AAD this year, but I will use the HECK outta this. :) Thank you, Cassandra, for such a useful post! *runs off to play with cards*

Is it bad that I'm ordering some for next years RT in Chicago?-lol- I love them so much I can't resist! I'm a big card collector from way back, was my bonding time with my Dad, so hearing about these totally gave me a nerdgasm.

Sooo much more fun than postcards or a piece of paper for sure. :D

What a great idea. Cassandra, do you know of a site that has instructions for creating these? Like the size, etc.

Ann- I think this might be a long-term promo opportunity, especially for those of us with e-books!

Jamie - check out the website in the post http://romancetradingcards.com - it has all the pertinent info!

This is just the coolest idea! I don't have anything to contribute YET, but when I do, I definitely want to make some of these. I won't be at RT, but I'm still hoping to be at RWA--if I am, I'll see you there!
