They're in great shape.
They're alpha males.
They have money.
Let's look at those reasons in more detail.
First, athletes are in great shape, as shown in Exhibit A, bull rider Brendon Clark, and Exhibit B, hockey player Sidney Crosby. Now, I don't know about y'all, but I love a man with a hot bod. What's sexier than watching your man sweat through a hard workout (especially if you're the one giving it to him)?
Additionally, athletes are alpha males.

So now you know why I love sports heroes. What are some of your reasons?

great blog. I notice even Harlequin is opening up to featuring sports heroes.
Thanks Helen! I've noticed that too - people are finally coming around to my way of thinking!
My sports hero is my husband. I met him when he was 21 and played soccer. He was fit, toned, healthy, and had a six pack that you could have sat all day and drooled over. He didn't have any money, but he was an alpha. Now, he's a little older, doesn't play sports anymore, and his six pack has turned into a keg. He still has no money, and the alpha, well he's turned into this big mushy softhearted guy. But hey, I still love him.
I was just thinking that I have to write something with a hockey player in it! Because they are in great shape (although I try really hard to forget about the missing teeth and dear God... the vile smell of sweaty hockey equipment).
For hockey players specifically, I find their determination to keep playing particularly attractive. I don't know how many of them I've seen bleed in the course of the game only to get stitched up AND KEEP PLAYING. So impressive.
Penny,
Sometimes Alphas turn into Betas, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Thanks for sharing!
KC,
I *totally* know what you mean about hockey players! They have a lot of admirable qualities that I don't see in athletes of other sports. I think that's why I like bull riders too - they seem more decent than other athletes.
Thanks for posting!
Cassandra, I love sports heroes, too. Looks like we both have a couple sport hero books coming out in a few months from LI.
