Buying Habits

There has been some interesting commentary just the last week or so about eBooks/eReaders and if they will or will not be the final nail in the coffin of book sales. Jane of Dear Author makes some great points in the debate.

Which lead me to wonder: Do you, as a reader of eBooks, purchase less or more in this particular format, and do you succumb to impulse buys the same way you might do in a bricks and mortar store?

Oh dear....my impulse buying of ebooks is MUCH higher than that in brick and mortar stores, or even online print books. s

I buy a lot more, as well. Especially when we're planning trips. It's nice to be able to carry a virtual library without having to lug around books that take up precious suitcase space. Plus, I really love finding new authors via the web. Since e-book publishers tend to be more willing to hedge their bets, it's more fun to try new stuff and easier to find new material. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do so.

I'd have to say my impulse buying is higher with e-books, especially when you can buy more for the same money as a print books in the B&M stores. Though I do still enjoy purchasing the occasional print book. I'm not sure anything will replace the feel of holding a real print book in my hands.

Since getting an ereader last spring, I find I prefer ebooks to print. No storage, adjustable font size, and access to subgenres print won't support, like m/m, are all significant reasons.

As to impulse buying, I have a Kindle, which is _made_ for impulse buying, and I've succumbed more times than I care to admit. ;)

i'd say i buy 75% ebooks now, without a reader. if i could afford a reader, it would be 100%.

Coming in a bit late to the conversation...

I don't have an e-reader, and so far my buying habits haven't changed much at all. If I buy an e-book, it's because I really want it and have heard of it. However, impulse buying happens all the time when I'm in a B&M store. I'll see books I forgot where out, or books with pretty covers or something. I rarely go into a bookstore and come out with nothing.
