Itchy Feet

I don't know what my problem is. Well, maybe I do. I'm about 1/3 of the way through a story I owe to Kensington Aphrodisia, but instead of burying myself in it and grinning like the happy camper I usually am, I'm restless. The Aphrodisia project is full length as in 80.000 words which means it'll take a couple of months to go from the back of my brain to my editor. And because I'm incapable of working on more than one project at a time, this untitled sucker insists on taking up all of my brain. But I have a short attention span. I want to be done with it because this, that, and the other thing keeps poking at me demanding to be written.
That's what I love about the shorter length novellas I do for Loose ID. I can dive into a tightly written focused story, milk it for all its worth, then dust off my hands and cast around for yet another single focus story.
Case in Point, Midnight Soldier which will come out sometime this month, takes place in a 24 hour period and has a single setting, a Veterans cemetary. Except for a couple of walk-on parts in a single scene, my hero and heroine are everything. There's one focus, a 'dead' soldier being given a second chance at life and the woman who makes that possible. Yes they have backgrounds, families, lives, loves and hates, but in no more than 20,000 words all that has to be compressed. It's a bit daunting and exciting at the same time. I'm only keeping one or two balls in the air instead of the who knows how many that are essential to filling 80,000 words.
The other reason my feet are itchy these days. I live in southern Oregon which means the foggy weather has descended. Enough already! I'm ready for spring.
