Group blogs vs Individual blogs

When my lovely friend Camryn Rhys gave me the idea for this post, at first I thought it might only be applicable to my fellow writers. Then I slapped myself upside the head (since Cam is about 2,000 miles away and couldn't do it herself) and said, "DUH. Everybody blogs."

With that mindset, I figured it might be interesting to look at some of the pros and cons of both individual and group blogging. I do both, and there are definitely good and bad facets of both. On to the show:

Individual blogging - Pro's
  • You have total creative license and control
  • You can post whenever you want to
  • There's no one to answer to
Individual blogging - Con's
  • You have to come up with every idea yourself
  • You're responsible for all the maintenance
  • There's no one to help out
Group blogging - Pro's
  • Lots of hands make light work
  • Many minds make it easier to come up with themes/blog topics
  • More than one person can do administration
Group blogging - Con's
  • Everything has to be put to a vote
  • Scheduling can be difficult
  • Personalities can conflict
So there you have it. What other issues have you found in regards to blogging?

Great Post! I really enjoy being part of group blogs, and think the pros outweight the con's. It's great working with so many creative minds, and ideas. I really learn alot from other authors - and it's just plain fun to have a support group! Viki

My first guess would be that a group blog would never be so hungry for posts that a blogger would be tempted to post absolute drivel.
