When Life Hands You Lemons

I'm sure we've all heard the phrase above. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.

Sometimes that can be very hard to do. You might not be in the mood for lemonade. Or not even thirsty. Or *gasp* what if you don't like lemonade.

All kidding aside, I do think it's a great cliche. It's saying roll with the bad times. Everyone has times when things just aren't going the way you expect them to. We all have points in our lives when we aren't happy.

I think that is one fallacy in our mentality right now. Some seem to think you need to be happy all the time. If you aren't happy all the time, something is wrong and you need to change your life, be it scenery, be it people, be it whatever. I think that sends people into hyper drive trying to be happy all time, which I don't think is a reachable goal.

At times, life just isn't a bowl of cherries. It may take change to go back to being happy but sometimes it just takes shouldering on.

When I think about being happy, I always think about Sarah from my book, Blood Kiss. She's not happy at the beginning of the book but she is attempting to shoulder on. She's got this positive outlook that even being unhappy can't kill. She's got this naivety and innocence. I often wish I were more like her. I know that I can be in the "shouldering on" part of happiness. Even when I'm unhappy, I try and move through it until my mood changes.

So bring on the lemons.
